I saw this over at Mari's blog (My Little Corner of the World) and just knew I had to chime in!
Every year it seems like Christmas is being pushed on us earlier and earlier. this year the stores are even pushing up the Black Fridays sales to get us all to spend our money earlier. Believe me I'm a shop ahead kind of girl, but I also feel like Thanksgiving gets glossed over in the midst of all this. We should be thankful for everything we have everyday and gathering on Thanksgiving reminds us to be thankful of friends and family both near and far. I remember one year trying to find a scarecrow or turkey after Halloween and was met with displays of Christmas and VALENTINES DAY!
Yesterday I stopped in Target for a couple of last minute Halloween items and was surprised to see the Halloween decorations down in the front of the store and the Christmas/holiday decorations up leading you to the seasonal department where they've had the trees up for the past week right in the middle of the Halloween decorations and candy!!! Really?!?! They couldn't even leave the Halloween up for actual Halloween?!?!? I commented as much to the cashier and she shrugged and said, "they told us we had to change it".
Blogger Jim Sullivan is taking a position on this annoying trend. He is standing up to premature "holiday cheer" hitting the malls and tv commercials way too early. I'm joining him and you can too!
