Thursday Thirteen

Since beginning to participate in the Children's Classics Carnival at 5 Minutes for Books, I have a new-found love for children's classics and have realized there are some that I missed the first time around. Keeping that in mind, my Thursday Thirteen list for this week consists of 13 children's classics I would like to read.

1. Rip Van Winkle
by Washington Irving

2. Peter Pan by J. M. Barrie

3. Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Graham

4. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

5. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

6. The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm

7. Heidi by Johanna Spryi

8. Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling

9. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

10. Robin Hood by Howard Pyle

11. Pollyanna by Eleanor Porter

12. Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling

13. Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers

The Thursday Thirteen is a weekly meme. Every Thursday you pick a theme and post a list of 13 related items. To read more Thursday Thirteen lists or to participate, click here.

I was an adult before I read most of the children's classics, too. Some of them I read to my kids, but most of them I enjoyed all by myself. They are great.

I've been meaning to read Wind in the Willows and Pollyanna for years. The rest I've read.

I've read 2,3,8,9, and 12. I have Treasure Island on my shelf. It's been on my TBR list since I was about 10!

I have read almost all (minus two) of the books on your list! You will love them, I still go back and read The Secret Garden and Peter Pan, another really good one is A Little Princess. But Grimms, when I read them I was shocked that people actually read them to young children, maybe its me, but I was really surprised.

Excellent. The movie, Finding Neverland with Johnny Depp made me re-read Peter Pan.

My thirteen is now posted...come join me? Happy Thursday.

Great list! I've read many of those but had forgotten them. Wind in the Willows is a wonderful book; there is no one like Toad!

We just recently listened to Peter Pan on CD read by Jim Dale (of Harry Potter fame), our library also has Alice in Wonderland read by Jim Dale, we haven't listened to it yet.

Hi - I just wanted to let you know that the comments aren't working on your photo blog. I've tried to comment for the last 2 days, but can't. Nice pictures though - I like the foggy one.
