I'm Officially (Re)Certified!

Last night I completed my re-certification class for CPR. I had originally become certified in CPR when I was pregnant with Tucker and have kept it up through my jobs ever since. (This time I actually got paid for it instead of having to pay for it which is also nice!) As part of the training, we also learned how to operate an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) which is a computerized medical device that can check a person's heart rhythm and let you know if a shock is needed. It also lets you know if a shock is not needed. There is a voice prompt that walks you through each step which makes it very easy to use! An interesting statistic the trainer told us: with only CPR, the survival rate is about 5%; with the use of the AED along with CPR, it jumps to 70%.

Good job! Interesting statistic, not very encouraging for CPR alone is it?

Not really. But I guess they figure anything you try is better than doing nothing.
