Happy Memorial Day

A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. ~ Joseph Campbell

Thank you to all our soldiers, past and present, who have fought to keep our country the Land of the Free.

My Daybook

On My Mind...can't believe how fast the time is going! It's already Memorial Day weekend and then Tucker will be done with 2nd grade next month!

Outside My Window...the sun will be setting in another half hour or so. It was really warm today, high 80s.

What We're Reading...I'm still reading The Queen's Fool, about 100 or so more pages to go. With Tucker, we finished our FL books and also read our CO books. The postcards seem to be out of order so we're just reading about the states as we get the postcards. His favorites this week were Here Comes the Garbage Barge and Down the Colorado.

What We're Listening to...I finished The Last Time I Saw You and am now listening to The People of Sparks (the second book in The City of Ember series).

What We're Watching...we went to see Shrek Forever and After in 3D Imax on sunday and it was AWESOME!!!!...watching the Biggest Loser as I write this; I'll end up bawling no matter who wins...hoping Erin wins on DWTS tonight...also still watching iCarly, Glee...looking forward to So You Think You Can Dance starting.

I am hoping...to sleep good tonight.

In the kitchen...fend for yourself tonight and probably tomorrow...grilled chicken Thurs...pizza Fri.

Around the house...dishwasher running...dryer running...clothes waiting to be folded...pretty neat actually.

Coming Up This Week...baseball practice tomorrow night...baseball game on Fri night...watching a motorcycle run on Sun (about 500+ bikes participate and it's a lot of fun to watch)

Some Picture Thoughts...Tucker looking serious in his catcher's gear...

My Daybook

On My Mind...I have had an assortment of female issues over the years, particularly since Tucker was born. Every year at my annual appointment there is is always something that requires some kind of surgical intervention. After discussing my continued symptoms, my doctor at first talked about putting me on Lupron which has the consequence of putting me through early menopause. Once he examined me, however, he changed his mind and believes my pain issues are actually related to interstitial cystitis, which is an inflammation of the lining of the bladder. so I will have some testing next month and there's medication that can help it. It will just be relief to have it finally figured out.

Outside My window...it is dark and raining.

What We're Reading...I'm about halfway through The Queen's Fool; just didn't have a lot of time to read this week. With Tucker, we read the California Gold Rush book a few more times (it's like the Choose-Your-Adventure books and he had a good time with it!). We also read our Connecticut books (the postcards went out today) and will be reading Florida books (the FL family sent them early so I wasn't prepared and had to go to the library!).

What We're Listening To...I finished Where the River Ends and am almost done with The Last Time I saw You by Elizabeth Berg.

What We're Watching...all the shows are ending! Happy with the final three for DWTS, except they are the three I like! I'm thinking Nicole may win it but I've been wrong before!...pleased with the ending of Survivor because Russell didn't win...still watching a lot of iCarly, Victorious...Glee is another favorite...and of course, Yankee games.

In the Kitchen...spaghetti tonight, BLTs, not sure what else.

Around the House...as usual, laundry waiting to be folded and more to be washed...dishwasher is running.

Coming Up This Week...baseball games tomorrow and Friday nights...Felix to the Vet on Thurs...beach on Sat (it's supposed to be nice and it's free admission to the state parks; Tucker will play in the sand and I'll read).

So many pictures to load...I'm going to skip the "picture thought" aspect of this tonight!

My Daybook

On My Mind...I really haven't stuck to posting more often! I even skipped this last week! It's pretty crazy with baseball glames and life in general!

Outside My window...it's dark, of course. It's cooling down lately after some really warm weather.

What We're Reading...we've been busy!! I finished The 19th Wife and also Big Cherry Holler (the second book in the Big Stone Gap books). I'm now reading The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory for The Tudor Reading Challenge. With Tucker, we finished Diary of A Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw and we're reading about the states as the postcards come in! So far we've received Arkansas (we read about Honey Bees (the state insect) and a book set in the Ozarks) and California (we read an interactive history book on the Gold Rush). We also read a book about Cinco de Mayo and The Runaway Tortilla, which is a variation of the gingerbread man story (Tucker seems to like these).

what We're Listening to...I finished The Shack and also City of Ember and am now listening to Where the River Ends.

What We're Watching...disappointed by the ending of The Amazing Race...of course, watching DWTS still (actually while I write this) and still like Erin, Chad, and Nicole...still not sure who I like on Survivor...watched CSI last week for the first time in a long time and had forgotten how much I enjoy it!

Quotable Quote...The crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow ~ anonymous (I actually found this on a plaque and have it on my desk...it helps to keep things in perspective, somewhat!

In the Kitchen...leftover lasagna (my mom made us an extra pan, along with what she made for Mother's Day yesterday)...stuffed crust pizza (I actually have a really easy recipe for this and had forgotten how yummy it was!)...that may be it for the week-it's crazy with baseball games!

Around the House...Laundry waiting to be folded and more to be washed...pretty clean, actually.

Coming Up This Week...PTO meeting tomorrow...baseball games Wed and Fri nights...home visit Thurs night...Tucker has a birthday party to go to Sunday...getting the postcards ready to go out next week for the Great American Postcard Swap.

Some Picture Thoughts

Tucker had a blast in the mud on Saturday (in between the rain and thunder and lightning!) First he discovered the puddle and got all dirty and wet. Then he came in, changed his clothes, added the winter boots and went out for more. Before I knew it, he came in barefoot because his boots were stuck!

How I started my day...

On my way to work this morning, while driving the highway, I blew out a tire! I was driving along and heard a rattling in the back and actually thought of my muffler. then came the ominous thump, thump, sound we all know.

I pulled over, climbed over the passenger seat, and went out to take a look at my back passenger tire. this is what I saw...

Not the best way to start the day! I called AAA and they said they'd send someone within the hour, sooner if they could because I was on the side of the highway. I settled in to listen to my audio book and hang on while the cars and trucks zoomed by and shook my little car!

After about 20 minutes, a state cop pulled up behind me. I went over and told him I was waiting for AAA. He said he'd call them to see if could hurry it up since I was on a busy road. Within 5 minutes or so, AAA was there!

He told me I could wait in the car and he put the spare tire on for me.

Once I got to work, I took a picture of the tire and really looked at what had happened to my tire! It looks like it was hit by a missile. There's only about an inch of tire still held together.
